Description

Do you look after a family member, partner or neighbour who you are helping because they are frail, have memory problems, mental ill-health, a disability or drug, or alcohol problem? Then it’s time to perhaps look after yourself, so you feel more in control and healthy!.
The Expert Patients Looking after Me course is part of the Health Trainer team. It provides practical help and support to manage your day to day caring role and to talk with others carers. 


 
How long is the course?

A 7 week ‘Looking After Me’ course (2 ½ hours per session), delivered in Huddersfield and Dewsbury Town Hall throughout the year. 

 

What to expect?

The sessions are delivered in an informal, confidential and supportive environment. Our Tutors are trained and accredited and all have experience of being a carer themselves.  

Carers learn new skills to help to cope with their busy lives and to look after their own health and wellbeing, develop the confidence to take more control and it’s an opportunity to share experiences and coping skills with other carers.

Positive Outcomes:

Carers who learn to self manage and look after their own health:

·         are less likely to take unscheduled time off work.
·         are less likely to develop health problems as a result of their caring situation
·         continue caring for longer so that those they care for are less likely to need long-term care


Who it is for:

·         Carer is over 18 years old.
·         Unpaid carer living in Kirklees. If you are receiving PIP or carers attendance allowance, YOU CAN attend our free courses

We also offer our short ½ day sessions in our Carer Journey Sessions covering the following:
