Description

Avon Manor providers 24 hours care for 28 elderly people diagnosed with dementia. The home works closely with all the local support services including GPs, and hospitals.

Activities
Avon Manor has an activity co-ordinator who arranges and manages a schedule of regular activities designed to interest and stimulate residents, some are in conjunction with our sister home Avon House.

These include regular mini-bus trips and other supervised outings. There are regular arts and crafts sessions and in house quizzes, card games and popular board games.

Residents are regularly entertained with songs from the past by visiting musicians and singers as a form of reminiscence therapy which is known to benefit people living with dementia.

Holy Communion is also held for those wishing to attend.

Food
Food and mealtimes should be a key part of a resident's life in a care home, and we at Avon Manor take great pride in our catering both in respect of the nutritional value of the food and its presentation.

The menus are varied, taking into consideration the dietary requirements and individual likes and dislikes of our residents, and we ensure that residents are given every assistance where eating is difficult for them.

Fresh vegetables, meat and fish are delivered by local suppliers. To save confusion and help residents make correct selections the menus are displayed with pictures and words.

Meals are normally taken in our comfortable dining room but may be taken in residents rooms if they wish.

Residents' weights are recorded on a regular basis and food and drink intake is monitored.
