Description
Community Action Halfway Home is a registered charity that has been providing mental health services in Sheffield for over 35 years. We provide practical and emotional support to people who are experiencing mental health problems, to enable them to establish an independent life. We work in partnership with the local health trusts, local authority, housing associations and other independent sector providers. All of our staff are enhanced CRB checked and are qualified to NVQ Level 3 as a minimum, many hold further professional qualifications. Halfway have also received a number of quality standards: QAF Level B, Investors in People and PQASSO Level 2.
This service provides support for adults living in the community who have mental health difficulties and who have a Self-Directed Support (SDS) budget. Halfway employs experienced workers who have knowledge and skills enabling them to provide one-to-one support to people living in the community. Halfway workers believe that individuals with mental health difficulties can and do make positive changes which enable them to live more independently, to develop skills, confidence, interests and activity, leading to an improved sense of wellbeing.
Individuals with a SDS budget will have a Support Plan which will identify needs that Halfway can help with. The type of support each client receives is individually agreed with the client. Workers are able to offer support in a variety of ways.
For example, workers can help people to:
• develop their ability to better manage daily activities like budgeting
• using public transport, going shopping
• structure their week and find activities which are enjoyable and of interest
• find opportunities for social contact, education, training, paid or unpaid work
• manage anxieties that might be getting in the way of doing things they want to do
• find solutions to problems by providing emotional support and the opportunity to talk through issues
• identify and minimise risk, working constructively to deal with challenges
Halfway also organises group activities designed to help clients develop skills and interests and clients can include these in the service they receive.
Workers can visit clients at home. There is emphasis on meeting in the community and making use of community facilities. Workers will meet clients at the frequency and for the length of time indicated on their Support Plan.
There is a standard rate of £50 for this service which includes up to 2 hours support and telephone contact with the office. Costing’s for additional hours are available upon request.
